The Venetian old town, beautiful in the evening.

2AREA 2 / 7

Paleokastritsa and Lakones

The west coast: turquoise bays and views from above.

  • Agia Triada Beach: turquoise water and organised beach clubs, ideal for a day by the sea.
  • La Grotta Bar: a cliffside bar with diving spots.
  • Paleokastritsa Monastery: by day for the interior, lit up in the evening.

  • Makrades: a nearby market village with kumquat liqueur, olive oil and honey (best by day).

3AREA 3 / 7

Liapades

A small, quiet village, a good base on the west side.

Where to stay

Rokamare

4AREA 4 / 7

Cape Drastis and the north

White cliffs, among the island's most beautiful.

  • Cape Drastis: spectacular cliffs, no bars or tavernas: bring water. A beautiful sunset, even if the horizon is not fully open to the west.
  • Loggas Beach: 5 minutes away, a more open sunset horizon.

5AREA 5 / 7

Porto Timoni and Agios Georgios

A walk to one of the most beautiful bays, then a long beach.

  • Porto Timoni: a double bay reached on foot from Afionas in 30–40 minutes. Go early, between 8 and 10: the trail is quiet. Good shoes, a parasol and water, as there is no beach club.
  • Agios Georgios Pagon: a sandy bay over 2 km long, Blue Flag, with beach clubs and water sports.

6AREA 6 / 7

The south

More authentic and less touristy: long beaches and fishing villages.

  • Agios Gordios: a 2.5 km sandy beach.
  • Petriti: the island's largest fishing harbour, colourful boats and an old-Greece feel.
  • Lefkimi: the real town of the south, crossed by the Potami river, with bridges and kafenia on its banks.

Where to stay

Pension Elena in Agios Nikolaos: budget-friendly and well rated, with direct beach access.

7AREA 7 / 7

Notos and Issos

Dunes, wide beaches and a garden by the sea.

  • Notos beach, or Issos Beach: a large beach among the dunes.
  • For sunset, move to Halikounas: Notos faces east.
